Music Video - Rough Cut

Here is the rough cut of the music video that our group compose, as you can see it is still far from completion as we are missing some scenes from the narrative.

I think the progression of the music video is going well, although there are some parts missing which we have not managed to film yet, this was due to the poor weather conditions for the days we organised filming.

As for the editing of the band performance scenes they are edited well, in terms of the variety of shots ranging from long, medium, close, and angled shots of the band. However the construction of the performance are mostly base layers so that we can add more clips and the final version of the music video will have more cuts in between that will match the beat of the music. Also we tried not to include too many shots in a section as we may have to use them to cut in on the narrative parts which we cannot currently edit, although we had a good amount of footage. I thought that we should have the base of the clips which match the music and then wait until we have the narratives in place so that in case we use too many clips on one section and not have enough, and although we can use same clips for different parts it would affect the continuity.

For the use of camera I can't expand on the narrative too much since there is less of it but the concept is the point of view of the band member who is late for practise. This idea was thought upon because it would be unique to see for the perspective of an individual and the effect would be suitable for the song we are doing.

The performance footage is reasonable in my opinion, even though we have lots of footage we also do not have enough of specific parts. They are enough shots of the band together although we don't quite have as many shots of the drummer (shots with is face), and therefore balancing when shots of the guitarist and vocals come in could become challenging. This can also lead to another improvement as in some scenes of the singer drags on too long in comparison to the pace of the jump cuts of the guitar and drummer. The singer lip synced most of the parts of the lyrics well, this made matching the video and audio easy, and as for the lighting we need to balance the clips as some of it is slightly inconsistent and we will need to tweak the colours and brightness of the clips.

In conclusion to where we currently are I think we need to speed up our work pace and try to get the narrative scenes as soon as possible. There are still some parts we need to change and improve and the music video is still far from complete, overall I feel that the quality of the current clips are good and the final product will be appealing to the audience.

Rough Cut Feedback

Here is a photo of the feedback we received from an audience who watched our rough cut of our music video.

A majority of the comments are  positive, an example of one is that they thought we had good lighting which I would agree on for the performance parts as the quality of the scenes are very clear. It also seems that we had a variety of good shots along with close ups of the instruments, although I personally feel that we should have filmed a little more as the rough cut was unfinished, in terms of there were many parts of the narrative missing which still needs shots of the performance to cut into.

Other feedback helped by showing that what we have edited so far is good, however there wasn't any points  or suggestions for improvement besides the fact that parts are missing. Having only positive feedback can sometimes be good as it shows that the progress of the project is going well, but it can also be negative as such because there is nothing to improve upon although I mentioned some improvements earlier we could do.
